Fitness Augmentee Program strengthens testing, supports rapid mobility

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. – The Fitness Assessment Cell at Scott AFB launched a Fitness Augmentee Program Sept. 2 to elevate fitness standards and bolster mission readiness.

As the 12th Air Task Force at Scott prepares for a large-scale deployment to the U.S. Central Command, the FAC saw a need to streamline fitness testing and keep Airmen prepared for rapid mobility at any time. The FAP addresses this challenge by fostering cross-unit collaboration and leadership development.

The FAP trains Airmen from units across the base to assist in administering fitness assessments, easing the workload on the FAC staff and ensuring Airmen remain ready for any scenario.

“The intent is not only basewide awareness, but also potentially increasing participation in the program,” said Tech. Sgt. Imani Williams, 375th Force Support Squadron fitness and sports operations manager. “We service over 60 units across the base, including a combatant command, two major commands, Geographically Separated Units and mission partners spanning from Illinois to Bahrain.”

Augmentees not only alleviate manning challenges, but they also gain leadership experience, strengthen cross-unit collaboration and directly contribute to the installation's overall readiness.

Staff Sgt. Alyssa McPeak, 375th FSS dining facility storeroom manager and an augmentee within the program, touched on how great of an impact the program has made in just two short weeks.

“At times, the FAC may have only a noncommissioned officer in charge and one technician, so when you get classes anywhere from 12 to 18 participants, those augmentees really help out,” McPeak said. “They help fill that gap to ensure accuracy and maintain DAFMAN standards for PT testing.”

To qualify for the augmentee program, the FAC hosts combined CPR and physical training leader certification sessions for Airmen who first achieve a satisfactory score on their official fitness assessments. These sessions provide the required training for augmentees to step into the role, while also raising awareness of the program, encouraging cross-unit involvement, and highlighting opportunities for personal growth and leadership development.

Physical training leaders are Airmen appointed by their unit commander who receive specialized training from the FAC to administer physical fitness assessments. Their role ensures testing is conducted to Department of the Air Force standards.
