Security Forces return from deployment Published April 18, 2006 By Airman First Class Brian Butkus 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (4-06-06) -- Airmen from the 375th Security Forces Squadron returned Monday from an eight-month deployment. After two months of training in the United States, they served a six-month rotation at Camp Bucca, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. There, servicemembers helped run the largest detention operation in the Department of Defense. Daily routines had the servicemembers compiling a quick reaction force, doing perimeter security checks, performing various searches throughout detention areas and working with convoys and supply operations. “The jobs there were tough and the days were long but I think the overall camaraderie and the experiences with my fellow Airmen are what I will take away from (my) deployment,” said Senior Airman Bradley Dimatteo. The 47 returning security forces members were greeted by friends and family at Hangar One. Some had not seen each other in more than eight months. “My husband deployed Aug. 19 and some of the other families have been waiting since July 25. I am so happy my husband is home safe and sound now. I am ready to continue my life without being a single parent,” said Pam Davis, wife of Tech. Sgt. Larry Davis II. When asked what he was looking forward to most Larry Davis, their son, said,“I’m really glad my daddy is home and I can’t wait to spend time with him and go fishing.” After servicemembers exited the plane, they met their families and were escorted to the hangar for snacks and refreshments provided by the USO. The returning troops will enjoy a two-week rest and recovery period before returning to their normal duties. Before servicemembers left, Col. Raymond Rottman, 375th Airlift Wing commander, offered a few words of appreciation. “I would like to officially welcome home each and every one of you. I would like to first thank the families for all your sacrifices and then thank you all for what you do for your country.”
