Combat Field Day promotes esprit de corps Published April 26, 2006 By Marvin Lynchard 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AFB, Ill. -- With camouflage face paint applied and “Super Soaker” water guns ready, the seven squadrons who form “The Magnificent Seven” from the 375th Mission Support Group battled in six events last Friday afternoon to determine who would take home the coveted “Combat Field Day Trophy.” Promoting esprit de corps, the “Magnificent Seven” braved the unusually warm elements and proved not only do they work hard during the week, but they also know how to play hard on the field. “My favorite part of the event the fellowship, the coming together of seven dynamically different squadrons with one objective…to blow off steam as we prepare to send more into harm’s way,” said Master Sgt. Daniel Detlefsen, 375th Communications Squadron first sergeant. “The mission was to have fun and without a doubt this event met the task. It was awesome.” Following sign-in, 375th Services Squadron opened the games with a grueling victory in the Combat Litter Run competition. The Engineers from C.E. countered and won the next two events, 3 on 3 Basketball and Combat Volleyball. The Warriors from Mission Support edged out the C.S. Communicators by a mere eight-second to take a victory on the Obstacle Course. The 375th Civil Engineer Squadron showed their dominance by posting another first place finish during the Combat Boot Race. The last event of the day’s athletic competition saw the power and sheer strength of the 375th Logistics Readiness Squadron troops as they muscled out a victory during the hard fought Tug of War contest. Although, the communicators did not place first in any of the events, they did however win the “Spirit Points,” which were awarded to each squadron based on attendance, camouflage face painting, blood pressure check and volunteers. In addition to the “Combat Athletics,” a “dunk tank” was available for personnel to test the strength and accuracy of their pitching arms by dunking the 375th MSG “smack talking” leaders into a tank of very cold water. The 375th Mission Support Group Combat Field Day trophy was awarded at the Combat Dining Out held at Hangar 1 Saturday evening. A hardy “Combat Congrats” to the engineers of the 375th Civil Engineering Squadron, as they are the winner’s of this year’s trophy. “Another classic example of the CES team pulling together with their varied talents and demonstrating that Engineers lead the way,” said Lt. Col. D.J. Junio, 375th CES commander. The field day paid off by meeting all the points it was meant to. “With our Combat Field Day, we wanted to promote some friendly athletic competition and camaraderie among the “Magnificent Seven‚ squadrons, as well as sharpen our warrior edge. After observing the bravado, intensity of effort and ubiquitous smiles, I think we hit a home run,” said Chief Master Sgt. Andy Kaiser, 375th MSG superintendent. “You know it was well received when you have a large number of troops saying “Next year Chief, we need to ...”
