New Fire Safety Trailer Published Feb. 2, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Brian Butkus 375 Airlift Wing Public Affairs 020207 -- The 375th Civil Engineer Squadron's fire department is offering a new way to help servicemembers and their families keep up with fire safety techniques. "The new Fire Safety Trailer truly leverages ingenuity and technology by providing first- rate scenarios involving residential fire mishaps," said Senior Airman Brandon Piper, 375th CES firefighter. "Both children and adults can receive different looks into common trouble areas such as unattended cooking, ordinary combustibles (trash can), and electrical fires; followed by evacuation planning and procedures." Some of the trailer's features include a heated door, a smoke machine, a window escape area and a kitchen area with numerous scenarios involving fires. The trailer also provides valuable natural disaster simulations including tornadoes and earthquakes. "The weather warning scenarios begin with participants watching a television show when the broadcast is interrupted with a weather warning," said Airman Piper. "Depending on the severity of the warning, the trailer is equipped with shaking blinds and a weather radio to keep the simulations as real as possible." As the weather warms up outside, the trailer will be available for safety events, squadron and group picnics and commander's calls. "We really hope individuals will take advantage of this great opportunity," said Carl Hodges, 375th CES fire department deputy chief. "Not only is this trailer beneficial to children but it may even teach adults a thing or two."
