101 Critical Days of Summer Published May 24, 2007 By Courtesy of the Safety Office 375th Airlift Wing Safety Office 2007/05/17 -- Memorial Day weekend is rapidly approaching and with it, the opportunity to enjoy a variety of summertime activities such as barbeques, time at the lake and vacations. Memorial Day also kicks off the 101 Critical Days of Summer. The 101 Critical Days of Summer represent the time period between Memorial Day and Labor Day; tragically, a period where the Air Force historically loses a great number of its family to avoidable accidents. Many will take leave during the summer months to pack up the family and drive to visit their extended families. Others choose to gas up the boat and take the gang out water skiing or fishing. Sevicemembers all need and deserve time away from the stressors of work. By using Operational Risk Management, some common sense and following some standard safety practices individuals can ensure that each of them, their families and Wingman have a safe and enjoyable summer. Col. Al Hunt will kick off the 101 Critical Days of Summer with a mandatory briefing for all 375th Airlift Wing personnel at 8 a.m. Friday on the North side of Hangar One. All personnel must be formed up by 7:45 a.m. Immediately following Col Hunt's briefing there will be a Family Fun Run on the Scott Runway. This event is open to all base personnel and family members. For those who elect not to run, Hanger One will be open for the Summer Fun Safety Fair. The safety fair will be open from 8 to 10:30 a.m., showcasing over 30 booths, including Ameren IP, Illinois State Police, U.S. Coast Guard, Green Knights Motorcycle Club, Air Force Edition Harley Davidson, DUI simulator, Base Fire Prevention, AAFES, Honda and much more.
