TACC Empolyer Appreciation Day Published May 24, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Andrew Davis 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs 2007/05/17 -- Tanker Airlift Control Center`s annual employer appreciation day was held May 9 to celebrate the support of the employers of the local Guard and Reserve units here. The event featured a TACC brief and a tour to showcase the many things Guard and Reserve members do at Scott. The events focus was to help employers of Guard and Reserve members better understand what their employees are involved in here. "We really wanted to highlight the total force here at Scott and show TACCs role in it all." said Col. Ed Rosado, TACC. The tour started out with a briefing, which reviewed what employers would see on the tour and also some of the achievements that TACC has accomplished in the past year. The tour began in the hangar one with a comprehensive tour of the C-9 and C-21 aircraft. The employers were allowed to view the aircraft inside and out. They were also run through a quick brief on each of the aircrafts, which explained the various missions that each plane flies. "A lot has changed since the first time I came here, but I really enjoy the opportunity to come here and see how it all works" commented Orville Frank, Illinois Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve assistant central west regional chair. The next stop on the tour was the control tower. The employers were allowed up to the control room at the top of the tower and observed a number of flights that were on their final approach to Mid-America airport and Scott. They were also shown the simulator that new Airmen train on before they are allowed to work in the tower. After the control tower they went to the 126th Air refueling wing hangar and were shown around a KC-135. They were shown the air refueling boom on the plane and its basic operations. Also many were surprised to learn that many of the KC-135s are 50 years old. The employers were then brought over to Cardinal Creek golf course to have lunch. After lunch the tour split up into two groups one of the groups went for a ride in a KC-135 and the other group went into the simulator to try and fly the airplane. "I think all the employers really enjoyed themselves, I also hope that it showed how TACC fits into the big picture and what there employees do when they are here" said Colonel Rosado. "This really helped me see how the Guard and Reserve members that work for me fit into the grand scheme of it all" said Joe Lebannee employer from the CLR group. The employers that attended the employer appreciation day were all part of the Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve. It is a staff group within the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. The goal of the ESGR is to help provide resolution and understanding to employers in support of the Guard and Reserve members that they employ. "I really enjoyed coming and though I already had some knowledge of the base it helped to expand on that" said Mr. Lebannee. "The program is growing and we had almost double the employers as last year and were continuing to seek expansion every year" said Colonel Rosado. The employer appreciation day will continue to be an ongoing annual event and will be held around the same time each year.
