A new page in Joint Total Force Scott's history was written when local area representatives, base leadership and the very Airmen who live there where on hand to witness the dormitory ribbon cutting May 17.

The ceremony signified the camaraderie between the local communities and Scott Air Force Base as the dorms transitioned from their designated number names to those of Belleville, Mascoutah and O'Fallon Halls. In addition to their new names each dorm was also given a mascot, Belleville the Defenders, Mascoutah the Warriors and O'Fallon the Chargers.

"Today is truly a monumental event," said Col. Alan Hunt 375th Airlift Wing commander. "I would like once again remind our Airmen who live in these dorms that you no longer are represented by a building number, you now have a name."

After the opening remarks were completed by Colonel Hunt various members representing the surrounding communities were invited up to reflect on the occasion.

"We are always thinking of our base neighbors, said Mark Kern, St. Clair County Chairman. "We are here to serve you, just as you serve us."

After Chairman Kern's thoughts, numerous other local community representatives spoke of the day's importance and then it was time to unveil the dorms.

First up was Dormitory 1820, from that day forward Belleville Hall. Next in line was Dormitory 1830, now Mascoutah Hall and lastly it was Dormitory 1810, O'Fallon Hall.

When the ribbon cuttings were complete and the new names unveiled all were invited to join the dorm residents for a barbeque.
