Salute to Scott Saturday Published June 15, 2007 By Christi Spargur 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs 2007/06/15 -- The city of O'Fallon and the O'Fallon Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 13th annual Salute to Scott Day Saturday at the O'Fallon Community Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Salute to Scott Day honors and strengthens the relationship between the base and the citizens of O'Fallon. "We hold this event every year to show our continued appreciation and support for the men and women of Scott Air Force Base and their families," said O'Fallon Chamber of Commerce executive director Debbie Arell-Martinez. "It's important for military personnel and their families to know that they have the backing of the local community - their community - especially during these times of heavy deployments. "These families give up so much in support of our country," said Mrs. Arell-Martinez. "This picnic is the least we can do to show our thanks." Festivities include a variety of activities such as pony rides, a circus obstacle course, and appearances by Izzy the Gateway Grizzly and Andy the Texas Roadhouse Armadillo. The main highlight is the building of a six-foot banana split by Joint Total Force Scott senior leaders and O'Fallon city officials. "This is a great opportunity to show our appreciation for the awesome support we receive from the local community," said Col. Al Hunt, 375th Airlift Wing commander. "I highly encourage everyone at Scott to come out with their families and enjoy an afternoon of fellowship and fun with our O'Fallon neighbors." The event is open to all Joint Total Force Scott personnel and their families. Food and entertainment is provided free of charge.
