Air Force Week Published July 13, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Andrew Davis 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Air Force Week St. Louis was July 2 to 8 celebrating the Air Force and its servicemembers achievements throughout the year. Air Force Week hosted in St. Louis consisted of many events honoring AF servicemembers, from Frontier and major league baseball games, USAF Band of Mid-America concerts to an open house here July 7 and 8. Air Force Week started as a way to spread the AF story with the ultimate goal of broadening the public's awareness on the Air Forces role in the war on terrorism. AF week kicked off with a number of activities at the St. Louis Science Center including talks and demonstrations from special operations weathermen, life support and explosive ordinance technicians. An Air Force Academy cadet with a live falcon put on a demonstration. Along with the many activities a musical variety show by Tops in Blue was held at the St. Louis Science Center July 6 to end the week. Along with the activities at the science center Senior Airman Obadiah Dalrymple, 375th Communication Squadron threw out the first pitch July 3 at a Gateway Grizzlies game the Grizzlies are part of the Frontier League. "I was really honored to throw out the first pitch and glad I can help spread the Air Force story anyway I can," said Airman Dalrymple. The Air Force week events are a good way to show what the Air Force is really about, he said. The Band of Mid-America performed a show at Jefferson Barracks County Park in Lemay, Mo July 3. Home to the first Army Air Corps training site and a national cemetery the performance was followed by a performance on Independence Day in Websters Grove, Mo. Along with the many activities around the St. Louis area Joint Total Force Scott hosted an open house and air show July 7 and 8. With a variety of acts ranging from the Viper West F-16 demonstration team to the Red Bull Bo-105 stunt helicopter. Rounding off Air Force Week, Gen. Duncan McNabb, Air Mobility Command commander swore in 40 men and women at the Cardinals vs. Giants baseball game July 7 at Busch Stadium. The inaugural Air Force Week took place in St. Louis August 6 to 13, 2006. Due to its tremendous success, the Air Force decided to return to St. Louis and expand the Air Force Week program to five additional cities. The other locations selected for Air Force Weeks are Phoenix, Sacramento, Calif., the New England region, Honolulu and Atlanta.
