Joint Total Force Scott gathered on a chilly Tuesday morning to participate in a run; paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon, the World Trade Center and of Flight 93 six years ago.

The morning's event began with comments from Gen. Norton Schwartz, U.S. Transportation Command commander.

"We will always remember where we were on this day six years ago," said Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, USTRANSCOM commander. "As we gather here today to honor the nearly 3,000 men, women and children who lost their lives, we also pause to remember all those who have sacrificed their lives protecting our freedom and fighting the Global War on Terrorism."

The run was led by Col. Alan Hunt, 375th Airlift Wing, commander, servicemembers from across Joint Total Force Scott, including U.S. Transportation Command, Air Mobility Command and the 375th AW and more participated.

The formation run began on the parade field at 6:30 a.m. and made its way up Hangar Road and down Scott Drive to complete in total a 2-mile run.

After the run was completed, the formations regrouped on the Parade Field and Colonel Hunt spoke on the meaning of the day's event.

"I would like to thank all of you for coming here today and taking time out of your day to honor those who were not able to vote six years ago today," said Colonel Alan Hunt.

When Colonel Hunt's speech was finished, honor guard members from Joint Total Force Scott raised the flag for Reveille and lowered it to half mast as taps was played.

To close out the duty day, formations once again assembled at the Parade Field for a Retreat ceremony in the afternoon.

Joint Total Force Scott's remembrance ceremonies concluded as retreat sounded and the flag was once again raised to full mast.
