Scott to kick off CFC campaign Published Oct. 18, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Brian Butkus 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs Scott Air Force Base, Ill. -- The Scott Air Force Base Combined Federal Campaign Kickoff is Tuesday on the Parade Field with a backup rain location at the Teen Center. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. immediately followed by lunch and an opportunity to learn about local charities. Advance tickets are required for lunch but general attendance is free and attendees are not required to get a lunch. Base assigned personnel should check with their organizations CFC representative to purchase tickets. The Gateway CFC solicitation period began Tuesday and runs through Nov. 15. During this time CFC volunteers will give every military and civilian employee working at Scott AFB the opportunity to contribute. "The Combined Federal Campaign is the only authorized solicitation of Federal employees in their workplaces on behalf of approved charitable organizations," said Lt. Col. Brian Greenwood, CFC point of contact. "The CFC began in the early 1960s, to coordinate the fundraising efforts of various charitable organizations so that the federal donor would only be solicited once per year in the workplace and have the opportunity to make charitable contributions through payroll deduction." Everyone may donate to CFC. Payroll deduction is available for military and civilian employees. Contractors and retirees are welcome to make donations by cash or check. "Federal employees continue to make the CFC the largest and most successful workplace philanthropic fundraiser in the world," said Colonel Greenwood. "Continuing a long-standing tradition of selfless giving, in 2006, Federal employees raised over $260 million dollars for charitable causes around the world." The CFC pledge card has space for a donor to designate up to five charities on a single form. For a donor to designate more than five organizations, additional forms must be completed and there is no limit to the number of organizations an individual can donate to. "There are more than 2300 charities to choose from including local charities both on Scott AFB and in the surrounding community," said Colonel Greenwood. Scott AFB has two local charity listings in the 2007 Resource Guide: #88489 Family Services Program (page 73) and #98420 Youth Center (page 78). Anyone interested in finding out more information on CFC may contact their unit representative.
