Lighting up the rubberized track Published Dec. 14, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Andrew Davis 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The winter months are upon Scott Air Force Base, to help Joint Total Force Scott servicmembers better utilize the rubberized track during low light conditions the 375th Civil Engineer Squadron Horizontal Construction Team along with the 375th CES Electrician Shop has put up over 3 miles of lights to aid runners. The solar powered lights which illuminate both sides of the track were all in place as of Dec. 6 and took approximately two weeks to complete. "The track running lights are all solar powered with photo cells that charge during daylight hours," said Senior Master Sgt. Kevin Beck, 375th CES Horizontal Construction team. The running lights will help servicemembers better utilize the track during early morning or late night hours. "This is a significant improvement," said Airman 1st Class James Wheeler, 15th Operational Weather Squadron. "Since I work swings sometimes it is pitch black out when I get off of work, the lights really help with visibility." Currently the lights are in trial stages to see how they positively aid runner safety. "Right now the lights are exclusively around the rubberized track and we hope for expansion to other areas of the track," said Sergeant Beck. "The lights will help people to stay on course and not accidentally stray from the track." The lights are just another example of how Joint Total Fore Scott is working to provide a safe workout environment to keep our servicemembers fit to fight.
