Scott hosts emergency planning meeting Published May 21, 2008 By Monte Miller 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- In 2001, President George Bush mandated that all military installations work with their surrounding communities in emergency preparedness and response. That mandate has become a reality, and Scott is on the leading edge of interoperability with its neighbors. Last week, Scott hosted the quarterly gathering of the Local Emergency Planning Committee and showed the downtown agencies what assistance the 375th Airlift Wing can offer in a time of need. "I'm very happy with the result of the meeting," said Lt. Gregory Ward, 375th Civil Engineer Squadron Readiness and Emergency Management Flight commander. "There were a lot of questions asked and lot of information exchanged." Lieutenant Ward added this was the first time Scott had hosted the meeting and it was such a success the offer was made for Scott to host the spring meeting of the committee every year. Both the 375th CES and the 375th Medical Group worked on the meeting by setting up several displays outside the Emergency Operations Center to show the civilian visitors their capabilities first hand. Exhibitors included the Scott fire department, explosive ordnance disposal, plans programs and readiness, the CE hazardous materials spill team and MedStar ambulance service. Lieutenant Ward said about 15 civilian agencies were represented at the meeting.
