The city of O'Fallon and the O'Fallon Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 14th annual Salute to Scott Day Saturday at the O'Fallon Community Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Salute to Scott Day is a yearly tradition that honors and strengthens the relationship between the base and the citizens of O'Fallon.

"We hold this event every year to show our continued appreciation and support for the men and women of Scott Air Force Base and their families," said O'Fallon Chamber of Commerce executive director Debbie Arell-Martinez. "It's important for military personnel and their families to know that they have the backing of the local community - their community - especially during these times of heavy deployments.

"These families give up so much in support of our country," said Ms. Arell-Martinez. "This picnic is the least we can do to show our thanks."

Echoing her sentiment, O'Fallon Mayor Gary Graham said, "Scott Air Force Base, and the men and women who work there, are a vital part of our community. Recognizing areas of mutual concern including housing, public services, and commerce has been important in keeping the base open.

"The Military Affairs Committee continues to work diligently to keep us all aware of this relationship," said Mayor Graham. "Please join us on June 14 in extending appreciation to the men and women stationed at Scott Air Force Base who proudly serve our country"

The festivities will include a variety of activities such as pony rides, an inflatable obstacle course, a rock climbing wall and antique fire engine rides. The main highlight is the building of a six-foot banana split by Joint Total Force Scott senior leaders and O'Fallon city officials.

"This is a great opportunity to show our appreciation for the awesome support we receive from the local community," said Col. Al Hunt, 375th Airlift Wing commander. "I highly encourage everyone at Scott to come out with their families and enjoy an afternoon of fellowship and fun with our O'Fallon neighbors."

The event is open to all Joint Total Force Scott personnel and their families. Free food and entertainment will be provided.
