The reigns of responsibility of the 375th Airlift Wing officially changed hands Monday as Col. Gary Goldstone assumed command.

The ceremony was presided over by Maj. Gen. Winfield Scott, 18th Air Force commander, who took the guidon from outgoing commander Col. Al Hunt and then passed it to Colonel Goldstone.

"The 375th is on of the most complex wings in the entire Air Force," General Scott said. "Colonel Hunt has set the stage well, with his leadership, keen sight and relationships with the surrounding communities. The wing continues to do amazing things."

General Scott then turned his remarks to Colonel Goldstone.

"The 375th AW is getting one of Air Mobility Command's finest," he said. "He has an unbelievable zest for the mission and leads from the front. The Air Force is transitioning and it is a trying and demanding time. This is a time when the Air Force must take stock in how we perform our duties. The responsibility resides with you."

Colonel Hunt, who took command of the wing in May 2006, kept his remarks brief.

"What a fun run it's been folks," Colonel Hunt said. "Twenty-seven months in this seat gives you a whole new perspective on life. People have asked me what my legacy will be. My legacy is the great men and women of the 375th Airlift Wing."

After receiving the guidon from General Scott, Colonel Goldstone, who recently returned from a mid-east deployment, addressed the crowd and the Airmen of his new command.

"I am thrilled to be here and thankful for the opportunity to command such a great wing," he said. "We are part of something very special and critical. Our mission is to support warfighting commanders and see they have anything they need.

"Some people have asked what is really at stake," he said. "Everything our country stands for...everything."

Colonel Goldstone concluded his inaugural remarks by stating that all standing orders remain in effect.
