JTF Scott joined forces to help their Navy Shipmates attend the 2008 Navy Ball by participating in the 2008 Navy Ball Golf Tournament Friday at Clinton Hill Golf Course.

The goal of the tournament was to raise enough money for every member and a guest to attend the 2008 Navy Ball at no charge to celebrate the Navy's 233rd birthday.

"There are a lot of young Sailors who don't do a lot things because of money," said Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Cox, U.S. Navy element morale, welfare and recreation committee member. "This is chance for them to talk to senior leaders and have an enjoyable time."

The event began at 11:15 a.m. with a lunch. The tournament then began at 12:30 a.m.

"The tournament allowed everybody to come out, have lunch, have a fun time, get off of work and get involved with the MWR all at the same time," said Lt. Cmdr. Patrick Martin, unit MWR chairman.

Although the tournament was for the Navy Ball, officers, enlisted and retirees from every branch of service, civilian contractors and spouses were all in attendance.

Several volunteer work also went into creating the tournament.

"I was overwhelmed with the enthusiasm of all the volunteers," said Lieutenant Commander Cox.

Prizes awarded included lowest three team scores, closest to the pin for men and women and longest drive for men and women.

There were three teams that won the tournament. The first place team was the Navy Recruiting team from St. Louis composed of Senior Chief Petty Officer Freeland Peterson, Master Chief Petty Officer David Duncan, Chief Petty Officer Sean Sullivan and Jason Sullivan with a score of 52. The second place team was Lance Davidson, Sharon Davidson, Navy Capt. Craig Galloway and Air Force Lt. Col. Steve Turner with a score of 53. The third place team was the NCI Information Systems team composed of Wally Gornel, Doug Story and Air Force Col. Suzanne DuBose, also with a score of 53.
