Sam "Nuke" Joplin has flown in more than 65 shows around the world and has been seen by more than 7 million people, the Scott Air show will be only the second time he has flown near his hometown. The first time Captain Joplin, F-15C Demonstration Team pilot and officer in charge, flew in the area was three weeks ago in Kansas City, Mo. Captain Joplin was born and raised in West Plains, Mo. "It is great to be near home because my friends and family can come see me and relate to what I do and what the Air Force does," said Captain Joplin, who used to enjoy attending the St. Louis Cardinals' games. Captain Joplin, who is currently stationed at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., graduated from West Plains High School and then attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. He is also a fan of St. Louis and the Soulard, Mo., area. "I have always wanted to fly," said Captain Joplin. "I like the challenge, it is very dynamic. I enjoy the fast pace, the fact that there is lots of information, that you have to react quick and the instant feedback; these are some of my favorite things out of one billion. " Captain Joplin is rated a senior pilot, with more than 1,700 flight hours in his career. Captain Joplin has also flown the T-37B, T-38 A/C and F-15C/D. Something Captain Joplin really enjoys is that the Air Force "allows me to pursue my dream and life's goals while expressing to young people to achieve their goals."
