U.S. TRANSCOM, Commissary, BX parking update Note on What, WHy, When, Who

What: U.S. TRANSCOM Parking - Parking for U.S. TRANSCOM and other personnel in immediate area of Bldg. 1900/1961 is limited due to construction projects to support U.S. TRANSCOM consolidation efforts and additional space requirements. The 375th Security Forces Squadron recently began ticketing employees parking in lanes marked as reserved for Commissary and BX customers to ensure parking is available for their patrons throughout the duty day.

Why: Appropriate Parking for All - Construction of the new U.S. TRANSCOM facility (Bldg. 1920) eliminated 301 non-reserved parking spaces immediately adjacent to Bldg. 1900. The 375th Civil Engineer Squadron, working closely with U.S. TRANSCOM project managers and the Army Corps of Engineers, have phased construction in order to minimize the impact to U.S. TRANSCOM personnel and others parking in this area of the base.

However, more base personnel lately have began using parking reserved for the Commissary at the start of their duty day, making it increasingly difficult for Commissary patrons to find a parking space during normal duty hours. Because of this 375th SFS began several weeks ago to actively enforce Commissary and BX reserved parking lanes to help ensure customers have reasonable access to parking designed to support those facilities.

When: The Next Step - When the eight lanes of non-reserved parking on the north end of the Commissary lot are included, there are currently over 540 parking spaces available to U.S. TRANSCOM personnel within a quarter-mile radius of Bldg. 1900 and within easy walking distance for most individuals. Just recently a portion of the parking lot west of Global Reach Planning Center was opened providing additional spaces and in approximately one month, another 71 spaces will be made available as the rest of this lot is completed, bringing the total within one quarter mile to over 615 spaces.

Who: U.S. TRANSCOM Members and Commissary/BX Patrons - The current parking limitations impact many personnel on base, but we understand U.S. TRANSCOM personnel are most affected due to the location of Bldg. 1900 and 1961. However, a large percentage of the base personnel and dependants use the Commissary, BX and other services provided on a daily basis and their needs must be met as well.
