Deciphering JOSAC, OSC, etc. Published Feb. 25, 2009 By Bob Fehringer U.S. Transportation Command Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Appearing this week at the base theater is Clint Eastwood in The Outlaw JOSAC Wales. Has kind of a ring to it, don't you think? For those who haven't guessed, one of this week's U.S. Transportation Command acronyms is JOSAC. The Joint Operational Support Airlift Center, or JOSAC, develops and implements CONUS Operational Support Airlift, or OSA, solutions and provides movement visibility for the Department of Defense (Come on, this one's easy. Let's all sing along, D-O-D). The following paragraph alone, taken from the USTRANSCOM JOSAC mission statement, should show the need for this column. As part of USTRANSCOM's Operations and Logistics (J3) directorate, JOSAC performs consolidated scheduling of CONUS OSA aircraft. During peacetime, OSA missions provide support to DoD command, installation and management functions while improving readiness and providing cost-effective training of aircrews. Wartime OSA missions move high priority passengers and cargo in direct support of combat or contingency operations. Happy to have taken the time to read this article? Tune in next week, when we may offer interpretations of favorites such as DDOC, JDPAC, JLOTS or even the much maligned acronym with punctuation RO/RO. HAND (have a nice day).
