As a Scott family was recently preparing for bed, they realized with shock that their house was on fire. Luckily, they escaped the house, taking only the clothes on their back.
Their house completely burned down and nothing was saved.

"We walked into JC Penny's literally in underwear and purchased some clothes, and then we were placed in the temporary lodging facilities," said the senior airman from the 635th Supply Chain Management Group. "We used our entire savings to purchase food, clothes and uniforms."

The senior airman and his wife are both in the Air Force. Their squadron was able to donate some money for the family. Shortly after, a friend advised them to see what the Air Force Aid Society could do for them.

"The Air Force Aid Society was able to give us a $2,000 grant and a $300 loan," said the senior airman.

The grant was a gift that the family will never have to pay back. The family will pay the loan back with a $30 payroll deduction for 10 months.

"We both have donated before and we're glad that we did," said the senior airman. "They were there when we needed them the most."

Currently the Air Force Assistance Fund is hosting its annual campaign. Last week Team Scott raised a total of $12,946 for the AFAF--$4,511 of which was donated by members of the 375th Airlift Wing. The Air Force Assistance Fund is composed of the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force villages, Air Force enlisted village and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation.
