The annual 101 Critical Days of Summer campaign at Scott officially starts May 21. The 375th Airlift Wing Safety Office, in conjunction with the 101 CDS planning committee, has planned various safety focused events for Team Scott throughout the summer.

"This campaign helps ensure that the appropriate resources and focus are given so we mitigate unnecessary risk to life, limb and materiel across the spectrum of our mission," said Col. Gary Goldstone, 375th Airlift Wing commander.

This year's 101 CDS campaign will be broken down into four sections, the first one focusing on transportation safety.

"Starting May 18 we plan on placing two wrecked vehicles at the Belleville and Shiloh gates that represent the destructive force of a traffic accident," said Lt. Col. Robert VanHoose. "This will kick off the initial transportation focus and provide a lead into the actual kick off day."

On May 21, starting at 7:30 a.m. there will be a kick off run on the flightline followed by a safety booth showcase inside Hangar 1. Fire department and security forces working dog demonstrations will be held as well," he added.

The four 101 CDS emphasis areas are scheduled as follows:

May 22 to June 17: Transportation Safety
June 18 to July 14: Outdoor Safety
July 15 to Aug. 19: Water Safety
Aug. 20 to Sept. 9: Home and Workplace Safety

The Safety Office has also collected four different slogans for each month. During each of these months several activities will be available throughout the base to remind Team Scott of the importance of being safe.

"We need to use these broad initiatives to achieve safety awareness and ensure effective risk management principles are embedded in all that we do, both on and off duty," Colonel Goldstone added. "Commanders, supervisors and individuals need to be aware of hazards, and practice good risk management every day. Remember, safety is not an accident."

101 CDS is an Air Force-wide campaign designed to raise awareness in an effort of prevent accidents during the summer, which is when they occur the most.
