Scott employee pursues master's degree through Air Force program Published May 14, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Amber Kelly-Woodward 375th Airlift Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Janet Grissom is a wife, a mother of two and the Civilian Personnel Flight officer. This summer she will add "student" to her list of titles, thanks to the Air Command and Staff College's online master's program. "I am thrilled," said Mrs. Grissom, who has been at Scott since November 2007, said about her selection for the program. "This will allow me to earn Air Force Intermediate Developmental Education credits and my master's degree. Plus I have my bachelor's in history, so I like what I'll be learning." The mission of the ACSC is to "prepare field-grade officers to develop, employ and command air, space and cyberspace power in joint, combined and multinational operations," according to the Air Force Air University Web site. "This opportunity will further my knowledge of the Air Force and allow me to develop leadership skills," said Mrs. Grissom, who has been working in the civilian personnel career field since August 1990. The program consists of 11 eight-week courses and needs to be completed within 24 months. Upon completion, she will earn a Master of Military Operational Art and Science Degree from Air University. She will also earn IDE credits and Joint Professional Military Education Phase 1 credits. "It is definitely challenging, but I am looking forward to it," said Mrs. Grissom. She plans to study during the evenings and weekends, and her stay-at-home husband will assist with the children.
