Tickets are on sale now for the annual AF Ball, held Sept. 12 at the Scott Club.  This year marks the 62nd anniversary of the Air Force with the theme: "Year of the Tanker."

The tanker's first mission was June 27, 1923 launched at San Diego's Rockwell Field. Two Army Air Service Airmen performed the first in-flight refueling. This flight was called Question Mark because no one knew if the mission could be completed.

"The tanker is an exciting plane because the aircraft can perform aerial refueling, move cargo and personnel and it is used in aeromedical evacuation missions," said Lt. Col. Juliette Robinson, Air Force Ball chairperson. "If you think of where the tanker started with a concept and how the refueling community performs today, it is the coolest thing."
Vintage uniforms from the tanker era will be on display at the ball.

The guest speaker is Lt. Gen. Charles E. Stenner Jr., Chief of Air Force Reserve, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., and Commander, Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Ga.

"It will be a night of tradition, history, legacy and future" said Colonel Robinson. "Everyone will learn something from that night."

Ticket sales will end Sept. 4 and with only 350 tickets available, they are going fast. Cost is $25 for E-6 and below and $35 for E-7 and above and civilians. Attire is mess dress or semi-formal or formal wear for civilians.

Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m. Meal choices include sliced chicken saltimbocca or beef tenderloins and shrimp skewers. Dancing with music provided by a DJ will follow the formal portion. The Band of Mid-America will also perform.

Childcare will be provided by the Child Development Centers and Youth Center for $10 per child.

Members from the group, Armed Forces Against Drunk Driving, will be available to provide rides if needed.
