OPSEC program managers available to help Scott units Published Sept. 30, 2009 By Paul Kineke 375th Air Mobility Wing OPSEC program coordinator SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- There are similarities between protecting personal information and traditional military operations security. Both try to protect critical information. In the military, OPSEC information is known as critical information. Examples of critical OPSEC information are deployment locations, times and types of operations, call signs, frequencies, plans, checklists, exercise objectives and other sensitive, generally non-classified information. This information, if obtained by the enemy, could cause serious harm to the successful outcome of military operations, leading to mission failure, and possibly loss of life. Just as people use care in conducting personal business to avoid loss of identity, people should use equal care to protect OPSEC related information to ensure mission accomplishment. Critical OPSEC information has the same importance to military operations that personal information has to the individual. The 375th Air Mobility Wing OPSEC Program Coordinators' office is ready to assist all Scott units in protecting critical information. They can provide advice, educational materials and conduct briefings upon request. Additionally, the OPSEC office conducts staff assistance visits and random OPSEC inspections in work centers, and publicly accessible areas of the installation. Questions regarding OPSEC can be directing to unit program monitors or the 375th Air Mobility Wing OPSEC Program Managers, Paul Kineke or alternate, Maj. Nicole Ogburn at 256-3056 or OPSEC@scott.af.mil.
