A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Friday at 4 p.m. near the Youth Center, which will mark the beginning of construction for Scott's newest recreational opportunity.

Plans call for a 91-foot by 55-foot concrete surface that will be the foundation for a skateboard park. The park will feature a half-pipe, quarter-pipe, two rails, ledges, a skateable picnic table and other ramps placed on top of the concrete pad.

"It's something that will be here for a really long time," said 2nd Lt. David Kyner, 375th Contracting Squadron. "It will give kids an opportunity to skate and have fun."

Scott resident Jordan Breakfield, 16, said he is excited about the skate park. Jordan and approximately 20 of his peers attended a meeting at the Youth Center Sept. 24 where they were given the opportunity to speak about what they would like to see in the skate park.

Base officials said a skate park has been an item requested several times throughout the years, and was able to be funded this year through end-of-year funds that were available.
