As W-2s become available on myPay.com, Scott AFB personnel can begin filing their taxes even before the tax center opens. They can do this by filing their taxes online for free by using the Department of Defense's Military OneSource family support program.
"Instead of going to a traditional tax center, Airmen can prepare and file their returns free of charge from their home computer," said Senior Airman Kristen Pratt, 375th Air Mobility Wing Legal Office paralegal.

According to Senior Airman Pratt, filing taxes through Military OneSource is a fast and simple process.

"All you need to do is log on to www.militaryonesource.com, register, and click on the link to H&R Block's Tax Cut Basic software," she said. "This software guides the user through a series of questions, and based on the responses, automatically generates a tax return, which is then electronically filed. You can also save your progress while using the program and return to finish it later. Filers who use Military OneSource's online system can expect to receive their refund in about 10 days."

Tax-filing assistance is also available through the Internal Revenue Service's electronic filing program.

To help Airmen file their returns, the Scott Tax Center is prepared to provide assistance to all active-duty servicemembers, their family members, retirees and Department of Defense civilians. The Tax Center will open for business Feb. 1 at Bldg. 621. IRS-certified volunteers will be on hand to help individuals complete their returns. Mr. Fletcher is the tax coordinator this year. He will be acting as the Tax Center manager.

The Tax Center hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The Tax Center will be closed Wednesdays to complete quality reviews.

Help is also available at the Legal Office or by contacting an H&R Block professional by calling Military OneSource's toll-free phone number 1-800-342-9647.

For more information, call the Legal Office at 256-3542. After Feb. 1, please contact the Tax Center directly at 256-1040 for information or to schedule an appointment.
