For the second time in less than a year, Gen. Donald Hoffman, commander of Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, visited the Air Force Global Logistics Support Center here.

The AFGLSC is responsible for delivering integrated global supply chain support for warfighter capabilities.

Gen. Hoffman started his day with a breakfast attended by twenty airmen from the 635th Supply Chain Management Wing and Group. During the breakfast, Airmen were able to ask questions including AFMC-specific, personnel and deployment issues directly to General Hoffman. Maj. Gen. Gary T. McCoy, commander of the AFGLSC; Chief Master Sgt. Cynthia Solomito, superintendent for the AFGLSC; and Chief Master Sgt. Victor Harris, the chief enlisted manager for the 635th SCMG, also attended the breakfast.

During his visit, General Hoffman received a "State of the AFGLSC" briefing, an update on the AFGLSC Campaign Plan, and participated in discussions on initiatives being implemented throughout the organization. General Hoffman was also given the opportunity to meet the AFGLSC staff during a walking tour of their work areas where they discussed various topics on challenges and initiatives within their functional areas. During this tour, General Hoffman was shown how the AFGLSC continues to perfect key processes, and moving towards a more predictive supply chain that is capable of having the right part in the right place at the right time to prevent mission capability shortfalls.

In addition to the briefings, General Hoffman participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the AFGLSC Supply Chain Control Center which is managed by the 635th Supply Chain Management Wing. The ribbon cutting, presided over by General McCoy and Col. Roger Thrasher, the commander of the 635 SCMW, celebrated the opening of the newly designed center.

"We've come a long way since we started," said Colonel Thrasher. "We began with old cubicle furniture and a single large display monitor in a closet-like room. Despite outdated equipment, we developed a way-ahead and accomplished our daily mission to rapidly respond to supply chain challenges impacting our worldwide customer. Though we faced challenges, we continued to evolve the infrastructure and processes, while adding more personnel as we built toward the future vision of having a proactive "sense and respond" capability for the Air Force supply chain."

The renovated center allows quicker access to valuable supply chain data, information and decision making which enables SCCC personnel to respond to warfighter needs more quickly.

General Hoffman concluded his visit by hosting a town hall meeting that included members of the AFGLSC, 635th SCMW, and 635th SCMG.
"I see your process and product on a regular basis," said General Hoffman. "Thank you for what you do to make the warfighter successful, whether it's direct support to the warfighter or to the depot so they can put it all together to get the warfighters the systems they need."

General McCoy added, "All of the Air Force's modern and aging airplanes become static displays without the enterprise supply support and spares that we provide...And we are not in the business of static displays. We're in the business of providing combat capability and ensuring the logistics readiness and sustainability of our forces."
