The Air Force Global Logistics Support Center held its first Mayor Appreciation Day Feb. 2.

The Honorable Gary Graham, Mayor of O'Fallon; the Honorable Jim Vernier, Mayor of Shiloh; the Honorable Jerry Daugherty, Mayor of Mascoutah; and the Honorable Scott Abner, Mayor of Lebanon attended the event that was hosted by Maj. Gen. Gary McCoy, AFGLSC commander.

Accompanying each mayor, as an escort for the day, was an AFGLSC member who lives in the mayor's community. This allowed the members an opportunity for a one-on-one discussion with their respective mayor to represent other AFGLSC personnel living in the local communities. Following a brief introduction and discussion on notable sites and landmarks in each of the surrounding communities, the mayors were given a mission brief by General McCoy. The briefing provided the mayors with a basic understanding of the AFGLSC's mission, scope of operations, and the responsibilities of AFGLSC units at Scott, Langley, Tinker, Hill, Wright Patterson, and Robins Air Force bases.

During their visit, the mayors also saw a demonstration on the capabilities of the newly renovated Supply Chain Control Center where Dan Fri, the 635th Supply Chain Management Wing Deputy Director, provided an in-depth briefing on the functions and capabilities of the SCCC and demonstrated how the AFGLSC is supporting the warfighter. The presentation also gave the mayors an opportunity to see how the SCCC provides the foundation to enable quicker access to valuable supply chain information and decision-making so that parts can be sourced and moved around the world.

The tour ended with an operational briefing by Col. Joan Cornuet, 635th Supply Chain Management Group commander, and various weapon system managers. The operational briefing allowed to mayors to see how the group delivers 24/7 worldwide operational spares support for the Air Force's mobility assets like C-5 and C-17 cargo aircraft, KC-135 refueling aircraft, and special operations aircraft like the AC-130 and CV-22. This included a demonstration of how the AFGLSC rapidly moves assets between all Air Force installations, depots, contractors, and Centralized Repair Facilities and redirecting assets to meet priority needs around the globe.

As the mayors departed, General McCoy thanked them for their time and also talked about the members deployed from the AFGLSC and Team Scott and placed special emphasis on remembering and caring for the families who are at home.

"It is important to remember that the spouse has to take care of the family, attend parent-teacher conferences, pay the bills, comfort sick children and worry about their loved ones when the military member is deployed," he said. "They need the support of their communities which is why it is imperative the units at Scott keep a close relationship with the community leaders."

"We at Scott are very fortunate to have a great relationship with all our local communities and community leaders. We all take great pride in calling these communities 'home,'" he said.
