Base-wide clean-up day Friday at Scott Published April 22, 2010 By 375th Conservation Management Office 375th AMW SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Scott Air Force Base is conducting a base-wide clean-up Friday in support of Earth Week, April 19-23. The occupants of each facility are asked to clean the areas around their premises to include trimming bushes and weeding, sweeping sidewalks, raking leaves, touching up paint, emptying trash bins, picking up litter, and mulching where necessary. Limited supplies are available at Bldg. 57, Self-Help Store, and are on a first come, first served basis. All large debris items such as concrete blocks and tree limbs should be placed at the nearest street corner by 1 p.m. Friday to ensure pick-up. If large debris pick-ups are anticipated, call 256-4245 today. As a reminder, government equipment, including furniture and appliances, may not be placed in dumpsters or debris piles and should be disposed of through proper channels such as DRMO or Base Supply. Household hazardous waste cannot be accepted on base. Please dispose of off-base; watch for community/news notices for special turn-in days in the area throughout the year. No hazardous waste should be placed into the trash or dumpsters; for proper disposal please call 256-2184 or 567-2637. The following items are accepted at the base recycling collection area: paper (white, colored, newspaper, envelopes and books), plastic (No. 1 through No. 7), aluminum cans, scrap metal and wooden pallets. Glass is not being accepted. Questions regarding recycling items may be addressed by calling 806-9901. Light bulbs can be taken to Bldg. 3306 for proper disposal (must be properly packaged and sealed). In addition to the clean-up day, an Arbor Day tree planting ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Patriots' Landing Youth Center. This event will recognize Scott as a Tree City USA recipient for the 17th consecutive year, and as a first-time recipient for the 2009 Growth Award for excelling in Education, Partnership, Planning, Management and Tree Planting. The ceremony will be officiated by Col. Kevin Webb, 375th Air Mobility Wing vice commander. All base personnel are invited to attend. In the event of inclement weather, the tree planting will be cancelled.
