345th RCS honors recruiter’s memory with display Published May 12, 2010 By 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs 375th AMW SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The 345th Recruiting Squadron honored the memory of Staff Sgt. Kirby Weaver, a recruiter who died in a motorcycle accident April 17, 2009, with a shadow box dedication recently. The squadron's commander Lt. Col. Mike Romero, first sergeant Master Sgt. Lee Thul, and the recruiting flight, traveled to Newbern, Tenn., April 16, to present Sergeant Weaver's family with a shadow box and memorial plaque depicting the sergeant's service. "We came up with the idea to create the shadow box to ensure everyone coming into the 345th understands who Sergeant Weaver was," said Sergeant Thul. "Kirby had a great personality; everyone who knew him loved him. "He was a good recruiter and Airman as well as a dedicated husband, father and son. This will be a lasting tribute to a lost friend and co-worker." The memorial shadow box, now permanently housed in the squadron's heritage room, was dedicated to Sergeant Weaver and his family, friends and fellow recruiters. Sergeant Weaver's career spanned more than seven years, first as a communications specialist at Offutt AFB, Neb., then as a recruiter in Martin, Tenn., near his hometown of Newbern. The 345th RCS is headquartered at Scott and recruits across a 140,000 square mile area that includes eastern Missouri, southern Illinois, eastern Arkansas, western Tennessee, north western Louisiana, Mississippi and western Kentucky.
