The Air Force Global Logistics Support Center hosted its first-ever Spouses Appreciation Day May 7.

Maj. Gen. Gary McCoy, AFGLSC commander, and his wife, Emily, hosted the event as a part of the Year of the Air Force Family celebration so spouses could get a peek into the daily world of the AFGLSC.

More than 20 spouses attended the event and spent a few hours with the men and women of the center staff, the 635th Supply Chain Management Wing and the 635th Supply Chain Management Group.

The day's events kicked off with a welcome reception where General and Mrs. McCoy met with the spouses and gave them an opportunity to get to know each other. The remainder of the day included briefings, tours, and a barbeque lunch with a goal of providing the spouses a better understanding of the AFGLSC mission, roles, and responsibilities.

The true purpose of the day was to make the spouses feel part of the AFGLSC family and show them how appreciated they are for all that they do.

As Mrs. McCoy said, "It was a wonderful day to introduce the spouses to the day-to-day mission of the AFGLSC and to make them feel like a member of the team."
Spouse's feedback was extremely positive and General McCoy plans to make this an annual event.

"It is important we make our spouses feel as much a part of our team as we can," he said. "They are the ones who have to take care of things at home during all the deployments. When the hours at the office get longer they have to juggle the family needs. It is their dedication and willingness that will enable us to meet the demands and challenges facing the AFGLSC."

The highlight of the day was the relaxing and family atmosphere barbeque lunch sponsored by the 635th Supply Chain Management Group at their new pavilion.
"This was a great day" said one of the spouses. "It's something I wish we had at all of our bases."

General McCoy said, "Not only was this a successful Year of the Air Force Family event, but it clearly shows how an outstanding organization relies on more than just those who walk in the door each morning. The hidden assistance of the support network of spouses, family, friends, and significant others is critical to the accomplishment of the mission."
