Scott responds to hazmat incident, area declared safe Published June 24, 2010 By 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Emergency responders declared a white powdery substance, found today at 9 a.m., to be negative for biological or chemical material. Hazardous material and bioenvironmental technicians as well as fire and medical teams responded to Bldg. 1961 when a secretary called for help after finding the substance while opening a letter addressed to a senior leader who works in the building. The building is part of U.S. Transportation Command. The scene was declared safe at 11 a.m. and the substance will undergo further testing while the Office of Special Investigations continues to investigate the matter.
