Teenagers learn life, leadership skills Published July 7, 2010 By Alice Munoz-Cook 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- On June 18, 40 teens attended a free, six-hour seminar called, "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens," hosted by the Integrated Delivery System at Scott Air Force Base. During the class, which was taught by IDS members from Family Advocacy, Demand Reduction, Youth Programs and the Airman and Family Readiness Center, teens learned about seven habits they could use to become successful in life. "The class is put on to ensure our young people are better prepared to face the challenges they'll face in middle school, high school and college," said Connie Payne, 375th Medical Operations Squadron demand reduction program manager and class facilitator. "We supply them with the tools to maintain a hectic schedule." Seeking first to understand then to be understood and having a win/win attitude were two of the seven habits that the leaders focused on. The class was taught through slideshows, team building exercises, real-world examples and an assignment book. Sam Tiller, 15, of Mascoutah, Ill., said, "I read the book, Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens, already, and since it's a great book, it made me want to go to the class." When asked what he learned from attending the class he replied, "I learned how to improve my leadership skills." For more information, call Ms. Payne at 256-7489.
