CAIB, IDS improve Air Force quality of life Published Sept. 1, 2010 By Senior Airman Samantha S. Crane 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Two important groups continually work to improve the Air Force quality of life. They are the Community Action Information Boards and Integrated Delivery Systems, which operate at Air Force, major command and installation levels. The CAIB focuses on identifying and resolving issues impacting Air Force members and their families, promoting the perception of the Air Force as a positive way of life and enhancing members' abilities to function as productive Air Force community members. The CAIB emphasizes strengthening force readiness through a sense of community and assisting Air Force members and civilians, families and communities to thrive and successfully manage the demands of military life. "The CAIB, chaired by the installation commander, is a forum where issues impacting installation personnel are presented and action plans are developed to address the challenges agencies may be having concerning their programs or implementing new initiatives," said Pamela Dorsey, CAIB executive director. "Because of the high visibility of the meeting and the stakeholders seated at the table--group and squadron commanders--issues are dealt with quickly and the benefit to installation personnel can be tremendous in terms of the impact to their overall quality of life." The IDS team supports the CAIB by developing a comprehensive plan for implementing and marketing base-wide outreach and prevention programs, identifying community concerns for the CAIB and proposing solutions, implementing collaborative activities as directed by CAIB and identified by IDS members, and monitoring base-wide suicide statistics and supporting suicide prevention programs. "The IDS is the 'working arm' of the CAIB," said Capt. Connie Burnett, Mental Health Clinic clinical social worker and IDS chair. "All of the helping agencies which make up the IDS work together to provide support services to all base members and their families." Members of the IDS team at all levels consist of agencies that have primary responsibilities in family services and prevention and education activities. Those members at Scott include: The Airman and Family Readiness Center, Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, ADAPT, Health and Wellness Center, Mental Health, Family Advocacy, Chapel and the School Liaison Officer. "The IDS provides events which the CAIB has identified as needing support by offering prevention, education and outreach activities to everyone," said Captain Burnett.
