Airman recognized for work at community center Published Sept. 8, 2010 By The United Way SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Master Sgt. Marty Stout, a manpower analyst from the 3rd Manpower Requirements Squadron at Scott Air Force Base, was recently recognized by the Leu Civic Center in Mascoutah, Ill., for his volunteer work there. The Leu Civic Center, a United Way funded agency, plans and executes a wide variety of recreational, cultural, social and family support programs for the children and families of Mascoutah, Scott Air Force Base and surrounding communities. "This organization helps virtually every child in the community," said Sergeant Stout, who serves as the current board secretary for the agency's Board of Directors in addition to his volunteer work. Patty Peek, Leu Civic Center Executive Director, said, "Marty Stout is one of our most devoted volunteers. The center could not survive without the United Way and our wonderful, committed volunteers. We work together to help the children and families who need us. Marty is a perfect example of one of our community-minded volunteers who enjoys volunteering with his family in his off-duty time to make a difference." About four years ago, Sergeant Stout was asked by a co-worker to help with the center's annual Elvis fundraiser, and he has continued to help wherever he can. "I recently helped organize a painting project at the Leu Civic Center with members of the O'Fallon Township High School cross country team," he said. "The project improved the facility and increased community awareness of our mission." Ms. Peek and the rest of the center's staff couldn't be more thankful for volunteers like Sergeant Stout. "Marty is always the go-to man if I need help with any project," she said. "He coordinates volunteers for many of our activities by promoting the Leu Civic Center's mission at Scott AFB. He is also actively involved in supporting United Way and the civic center during the Combined Federal Campaign. Marty's efforts have greatly improved our ability to put first things first and help the children in our community." Sergeant Stout's focus is always on the helping the children. "The Leu Civic Center offers kids a safe place to hang out, and our Feed the Kids program ensures that healthy meals are provided to children when needed," said Sergeant Stout. "The goal is to keep them safe, out of trouble, and off the streets." In 2009, Leu Civic Center helped nearly 800 children and families members living in the Illinois Division of United Way of Greater St. Louis.
