As the flag football season drew near, a few members of the 635th Supply Chain Operations Group jokingly decided they were going to wear pink.

Once more players became interested in the idea, they decided to wear pink for a cause.
"Instead of just being a couple of guys wearing pink, we wanted to raise money for something," said Staff Sgt. William Ruble, No. 5 wide receiver. "Someone else mentioned that September was cancer awareness month, so that's how we narrowed it down to cancer."

Airman Antonio Bryant, No.15 running back, added, "Then we met with our booster club and they said they would collect the funds and then donate it to either the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the American Cancer Society during the Combined Federal Campaign."

Their plan is to have a pink bucket on a table at each game where anybody can donate. Each team member of the 635th SCOG also plans to donate at least $1 at every game, in addition to wearing some sort of pink at every game.

"Our commander, Col. Tew, also wants to encourage other squadrons to either help contribute or start their own collection," said Senior Airman Jay Calfee, No. 3 wide receiver. "At the end this will not just be for our team, we want it to be from the Scott Air Force Base flag football players."

The season began a few weeks ago and will continue through November. Games are held at the James Gym track.
