375th OG stands up Det. 1 Oct. 1 Published Oct. 6, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Jerome C. Baysmore 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Scott Air Force Base now has ties with Oklahoma and the Air Force Flight Standard Agency after a mission realignment initiative. Detachment 1 stood up under the 375th Operations Group in a formal ceremony at the Federal Aviation Administration's Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, in Oklahoma City, Okla., Oct. 1. Col. Terry Ward, 375th OG commander, presided over the ceremony where Lt. Col. Brent Booker assumed command of the detachment. Col. Michael Hornitschek, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander, hosted the ceremony. "As we transfer the Combat Flight Inspection, CFIN, and NC-21 operations from AFFSA to the 375th OG and activate Det. 1, we remember the proud tradition in which both have served," said Colonel Hornitschek. "The Air Force has carried out the flight inspection mission for the past 50 years and the men and women of CFIN have continually met the combatant commanders' needs to maintain full instrument flight capability, ensuring safe, all weather access for combat aircrews in every corner of the globe. We look forward to building the bonds of teamwork and we pledge to continue the legacy of excellence we have inherited." The AFFSA's flying mission was re-aligned under Air Mobility Command to ensure administrative and operational oversight of the flying mission by a warfighting headquarters. The realignment also allows for better use of the unit's unique combat and evaluation flying missions in accordance with Air Force doctrine. Det. 1 is a 24-member unit that flies the FAA's fleet of Challenger aircraft, and certifies and validates navigation equipment and instrument procedures in combat airspace. Additionally, Det. 1 manages the flight operations of two NC-21 aircraft for AFFSA. "It's fitting that the NC-21 and Combat Flight Inspection missions realign under the 375th OG," said Colonel Ward. "Not only does the 375th Air Mobility Wing operate the largest C-21 fleet in the Air Force, but Scott Air Force Base was the home to Flight Check, under the 1467th Facility Checking Squadron, until 1991." Colonel Booker said, "Under the 375th Operations Group direction, Det. 1 looks forward to continuing the successful joint venture between the FAA and the Air Force." The newly-designated detachment will remain headquartered at Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center. AFFSA transferred from Andrews AFB in 2006 to Oklahoma City as part of a 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission decision.
