What you need to know about DBIDS Published Sept. 1, 2010 By Bekah Clark 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- With the implementation of the Defense Biometrics Identification System slated to begin in the middle of this month, it's vital that all Team Scott personnel and their eligible family members enroll in the system. Using barcode technology and fingerprints, DBIDS is the latest step in helping the 375th Security Forces Squadron secure Scott Air Force Base by verifying the access authorization of all people entering the installation. Once implemented, security forces will scan the barcode on each base entrant's ID into a handheld device for all lanes of traffic entering Scott AFB. Registration is required for all CAC holding personnel, retirees, as well as all dependents over the age of 16. Personnel, retirees and dependents may register at the Visitor Control Center Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or on Saturday from 6 a.m. to noon. Registration is also available in Room 135 in the Base Defense Operations Center (Bldg. 755) Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The 375th SFS is no longer registering each unit or tenant. Instead, each member must register individually. There are also no designated times for members of specific units or tenants to register. Registrations must be accomplished during normal walk-in hours. Appointments are only available for directors and above due to the amount of personnel needing to be registered. Since DBIDS is capable of attaching multiple IDs to one profile, be sure to bring all forms of Department of Defense ID with you to register. For example, if you're a dependent or a retiree as well as a CAC holder, you need to bring your ID as well as your CAC to register for DBIDS. Dependents are able to register without their sponsor present; however a sponsor may not register a dependent without the dependent present. A sponsor's dependents may register using one registration form. Children under the age of 16 are not required to register, but it is recommended that any child who possesses a DoD/military ID register into the system. While entering the base in recent weeks your CAC may have been scanned and you were granted entry to the base. Do not assume that you are in the system based on this entry; this was just a test of the system. If not enrolled by the time the system is rolled out, upon attempting to gain entry to the base the ID holder will be directed to the VCC to enroll, or the ID card will be flagged in the system that will annotate a date by which the ID holder must register with an allotted amount of times they're allowed to enter the base before that date. If you have enrolled in the system while on a deployment or overseas assignment, you will need to re-register. DBIDS is currently setup regionally meaning only a certain number of bases can be seen on your profile. DBIDS can scan any ID card with a barcode, which will limit the need for ID cards to be replaced. Some older ID cards will need to be re-issued with a current ID barcode. Contractors who have had a new CAC issued due to a new contract year will need to re-enroll in DBIDS. This is because the barcode changes when a new ID card is issued. Re-enrollment only requires updating the barcode attached to an existing profile, re-accomplishment of forms and fingerprints is not necessary. Currently, those holding an Air Force Form 345 ID card, usually given to some Non-Appropriated Funds employees and some dependents, will not have to register.
