Whether someone has trouble falling asleep or staying asleep or they still feel tired after a full night's rest, the 375th Medical Operations Squadron Mental Health office offers a sleep enhancement class to help people get the most out of their sleep.

"Whether you are having trouble sleeping or you just want to learn a little more about sleep, this class is good for everyone to take," said Airman 1st Class Douglas Crossen, 375th Medical Operations Squadron mental health technician. "This class could even come in handy later down the road or for someone that you know."

The first portion of class goes over the factors that lead to poor sleep quality such as stress, age and behavioral factors. The class also goes over the different types of sleep, REM and non-REM sleep. The last portion of the class includes ways to cope with not being able to fall asleep such as different breathing and relaxation techniques.

"Sleep is vital to your health and quality of life," said Airman Crossen. "Which is why it is so important to make sure you get the right amount of restorative sleep."

The Sleep Hygiene Class is held the first and third Thursday of every month from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Mental Health office.

The class is voluntary and a medical record will not be opened for attending the class. The class does not take the place of a medical visit; anyone who thinks they need medical help should contact their primary care manager. The Mental Health office also offers individual counseling for those who still experience sleep issues.
