Crane 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- On Sunday, the St. Clair County Historical Society recognized Bldg. 7 as a historical landmark. "This is the first time that buildings on Scott AFB have qualified," said David Cox, Historical Society board member. For a building to be evaluated by the St. Clair County Historical Society, it must be at least 75 years old. As the oldest building on base, Bldg. 7 was eligible to be considered. Bldg. 7, originally built in 1923, is the only survivor of the first three colonial style buildings built on Scott Air Force Base. First serving as an electric substation, it now houses the Area Defense Council. "It is in terrific condition for its age and the base has done a wonderful job preserving it," said Mr. Cox. "The society's Landmark Committee visited the building, reviewed its pedigree and determined it should be recognized as a historic landmark." The society recognized 10 other sites across the county as historical landmarks at a luncheon Sunday The St. Clair County Historical Society was founded in 1905 and continues today promoting the study and dissemination of local and general historical information.
