Operation Cookie Drop

To a lot of people, the holidays mean more time to spend with family, but for Airmen living in the dorms, spending time with family isn't always an option. To help make the holiday season a little brighter, the Officers' Spouses' Club has been teaming up with local communities and squadron first sergeants to deliver a little taste of home to dorm residents.

For more than a decade, the annual Operation Cookie Drop has continued to grow. This year, more than 14,500 cookies were collected from members of Team Scott and the surrounding communities.

"It's to show appreciation for the Airmen living in the dorms who don't have family close by," said Stefanie Cooper, OSC Airmen Appreciation chair.

With the magnitude of cookies the OSC receives, Operation Cookie Drop has spread to include Airmen all around Scott Air Force Base.

"We start with the Airmen in the dorms and then we begin delivering them to other units around base," said Ms. Cooper.

This year, Airmen received at least a dozen cookies in a bag decorated by children from O'Fallon and Lebanon schools. The Southwestern Illinois College and community of Belleville each donated thousands of cookies to show support for Airmen on base. Plus, many other groups donated cookies as well.

"The cookies were really thoughtful and very good," said Airman 1st Class Spencer Foust, 375th Logistics Readiness Squadron. "Most of them didn't last until the end of the day."

The OSC is comprised of spouses from all branches of the military, both active duty and retired. They meet the second Wednesday of the month. For more information, visit www.scottosc.com.
