375th AMW launches first MOBEX of 2011 Published Jan. 12, 2011 By Bekah Clark 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The 375th Air Mobility Wing launched the first mobility exercise of the new year yesterday to practice deploying combat-ready Airmen at a moment's notice. About 400 Airmen are participating in the exercise which started with a mobility line--a one-stop shop for all in-processing needs that would be set up if Scott Airmen were to be mobilized. During the exercise, the Crisis Action Team, Installation Deployment Readiness Cell, Unit Control Centers, Cargo Deployment Function, Personnel Deployment Function, along with military and civilian members who are assigned to mobility positions are activated. As with all exercises, Airmen will be presented with a variety of scenarios to test if they can respond quickly and effectively if called to deploy as a unit. They are also given a variety of briefings on topics regarding self-aid buddy care, recovery procedures, combat arms and skills to further develop deployment skills. Those at Scott remember many of these exercises in preparation for last year's Operational Readiness Inspection, in which the 375th AMW scored an overall 'Excellent' rating. However, MOBEXs are actually a yearly requirement, regardless of the date of a unit's next ORI. "We have a requirement to exercise all Unit Type Codes on an annual basis," said Charley Mills, 375th AMW's chief of exercises and inspections. "Based on the number of personnel assigned to the different UTCs, we cannot exercise them all at one time," he said. "We schedule a number of exercises that allow the wing to meet its requirement of exercising all UTCs each year." In addition, tenant organizations have mobility requirements that are similar to the 375th AMW's. "As the host wing, it's our responsibility to include them in our exercise program," said Mr. Mills. "This could be done as a joint exercise or an exercise specifically focused on that tenant organization. Regardless, the exercise effort almost always includes our CAT, IDRC, UCCs, CDF and PDF." The exercise will be complete once all exercise objectives are met.
