Salute to Scott event unites community, Air Force base Published June 1, 2011 By O'Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce Scott Air Force Base, Ill. -- The City of O'Fallon, the Village of Shiloh, and the O'Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee will host the 17th Annual Salute to Scott AFB from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 11, at the O'Fallon Community Park (308 E. Fifth St.). The goal of this event is to show appreciation for Scott Air Force Base personnel and their families. A flag ceremony in honor of Flag Day will start the event at 10:45 a.m. Free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and soda will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Various area restaurants will also provide samples throughout the day. At the large pavilion in the park, the O'Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a business expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The expo features displays from more than 40 local businesses. There are many family activities planned. There will be pony rides, a rock climbing wall, inflated jumping balloons, fireman's pole, and antique fire engine rides. Afternoon events include the O'Fallon Police and EMS display as well as a military working dog demonstration at 1 p.m. Radio Disney will be on site from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Illinois Kids will perform from 1-2 p.m. The highlight of the day will be the making of the largest banana split in the area. Be ready to dive in and enjoy this special treat around 2 p.m. Attendance prizes for both adults and children will be awarded throughout the day. The children's bikes will be awarded at 2:15 p.m. You must be present to win the bikes. There will be a free family swim for those attending. Arm bands for admission to the pool will be at the registration booth while they last.
