The event raised more than $3,900 with proceeds directly supporting base recognition programs to ensure enlisted members from all services are recognized for their outstanding performance and dedication. Additionally, funds received support Operation Warmheart, which is managed by the First Sergeants to help enlisted members who need a little extra help with finances or family support. "Operation Warmheart is a year round program designed to assist Airmen and their families during a time of need," said Master Sgt. Marcie Whiteaker, 375th Communication Support Squadron first sergeant. "It's overwhelming the amount of people who came out to support." The First Sergeant's Council and other committee members at Scott Air Force Base have raised funds for Operation Warmheart through the annual golf tournament for nearly a decade. This year's tournament was a "Best Ball Shotgun Start." A shotgun start is a golf tournament format in which all groups of players tee off simultaneously from different holes. A shotgun start allows each team to finish the tournament simultaneously. "All of the First Sergeants are very excited and energized about the program," Sergeant Whiteaker said. "We really look forward to being able to positively touch the lives of so many Airmen and their families. It's a joy for us to put smiles on their faces and let them know that this is more than a workplace; the Air Force is also a family."
