Golf tournament benefits Team Scott Published June 29, 2011 By Samantha Crane 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- For the 18th year in a row, Tri-Cor Industries, based in O'Fallon, Ill., hosted an annual benefit golf tournament June 24 to help raise funds for Friends of Military Families. More than 100 people participated in the tournament, which also included a check presentation from Scott Parker, Tri-Cor director of operations, to Col. Terry Ward, 375th Operations Group commander, and Lona Berndt, Friends of Military Families treasurer. "Friends of Military Families is a private organization that supports the Scott community through resources, events and emergency assistance," said Ms. Berndt. This includes the monthly Hearts Apart events for families of deployed Team Scott members and support of other Airman and Family Readiness Center programs such as the Key Spouse program, Exceptional Family Members Program and Team Scott Happy Landings class. "The money we receive from other organizations, especially Tri-Cor, help fund the Friends of Military Families support services," said Ms. Berndt. Friends of Military Families also works hard to ensure members of all military branches are able to take advantage of the support services on base. "We want to make sure everyone who needs help receives it," said Deb Teague, Friends of Military Families President. "Funds from the Air Force Aid Society, which fund programs like Give Parents a Break, Car Care Because We Care and many of the A&FRC classes are only available to Airmen, so we ensure there are resources available for families in our sister services." This month's Hearts Apart event will be a pool party July 8 at 7 p.m. at the Fitness Center Pool.
