Educational workshop offered for parents of young children Published July 7, 2011 Airman and Family Readiness Center SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The Airman and Family Readiness Center and Parent Advocates for Students and Schools, or PASS, will hold a workshop July 20 called "Starting Your Child in School." The workshop is part of an on-going effort to educate parents on ways to have a successful and meaningful introduction into their child's early education years, understand how to register their children in school, and simple, inexpensive literacy activities that will help spark their child's desire to learn. The PASS workshops are led by parents and local educators who help military parents become better advocates for their children while transferring from school to school because of military relocations. Parents learn more about the local school systems while educators learn more about the unique needs of military-connected students. Rachel Rosier, Shiloh Elementary School principal, will host this month's workshop. Mrs. Rosier graduated from Texas A&M University with degrees in both Early Childhood and Elementary Education and has trained both teachers and school administrators in developmentally appropriate teaching styles. A panel of school administrators will also be available to answer any questions that parents may have that are specific to their child's needs. PASS workshop objectives: Helping your children achieve a successful start to their education. Understanding how to register your child in school and documents required. Better understanding early literacy activities for children. Inexpensive ideas parents can use at home to help spark their children's natural desire to learn. Internet resources to help prepare children for school. Understanding the importance of proper advocacy for your child.
