The Air Mobility Rodeo 2011, sponsored by Air Mobility Command, pits air and ground crews against each other to test aerial precision, aerial port operations, aeromedical evacuation, maintenance and many other aspects of aviation, and for the first time in Rodeo history, it will also test the financial skills of the Air Force comptrollers.

Representing the 375th Comptroller Squadron are Tech. Sgt. Kurt Wells, 375th CPTS NCOIC of financial management, as the disbursing agent; Staff Sgt. Robert Shearer, 375th CPTS NCOIC of customer service, as the cashier; and Staff Sgt. Justin Ellrich, 375th CPTS NCOIC of special actions, as the accounting liaison officer.

Each team of comptrollers must prove they can stand up a financial office from scratch and begin to perform the financial functions that keep a base running.

"During the competition, three-person teams deploy to the exercise site with all the necessary logistical equipment to maintain essential operations," said Wells. "Teams are challenged with over 200 timed scenarios."

Aspects the 375th CPTS will be graded on include customer service, budget management and contracts. Teams can also be tested on chemical warfare, information security, self-aid and buddy care and physical fitness.

Though the comptrollers won't know exactly what they will face, they have been preparing since January to ensure they can complete anything the evaluators throw at them.

"Our squadron as a whole has been assisting us by putting us through real-world scenarios and putting the team through self-aid and buddy care and chemical warfare scenarios on a weekly basis," said Wells.

As it is the first year the comptroller teams will be competing, their scores will not affect the overall scores for their bases, but will instead be used only to judge the comptrollers against each other.
