New ‘No right on red’ at busy corner

In a recent change, vehicles at the intersection of Scott Drive and Winters Street can no longer turn right on red.

The safety office has received a lot of questions regarding this new "No Turn on Red" sign. The most common question, "Was someone hit in the crosswalk?" In a word, yes.
In the past month there have been two incidents at that location, one involving a bicycle and the other involving a pedestrian. Both incidents involved a vehicle turning right on a red light.

Although no one was seriously injured during either of these collisions, we have to prevent another accident from happening. As the base was already looking for ways to ensure pedestrian safety at that intersection, the most obvious fix was to eliminate the option of turning right on red.

Even with the addition of the sign, vehicles and pedestrians still need to proceed with caution at all times and at all locations.
