Team Scott remembers 9/11 Published Sept. 8, 2011 By Staff Sgt. Stephenie Wade 375th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs Scott Air Force Base, Ill. -- Team Scott invites all members and their families to pay tribute to the fallen men and women who lost their lives during and since the 9/11 attacks 10 years ago. In remembrance, Scott will hold two special observances to honor the event. The first event will be held Friday, Sept. 9, as Air Mobility Command leads a retreat ceremony on the parade field at 4 p.m. Members from AMC will line up in formation as the flag is lowered and taps is played. Immediately following will be a moment of silence and remarks by Lt. Gen. Vern Findley, AMC Vice Commander. The U.S.A.F Band of Mid-America will also be performing throughout the event. All members are welcome to observe, duty uniform is acceptable. The second event will be held Sunday, Sept. 11. The 9/11 memorial remembrance ceremony was created by Team Scott members who voluntarily put together a ceremony to pay tribute to the lives lost during and since the 9/11 attacks. The group formally became the 9/11 Committee and is now a private organization on the base. To pay tribute they had the idea to put together a memorial for the whole base to view. The memorial consists of a piece from the World Trade center, Pentagon and Pennsylvania. It was created by landscapers from Envisioning Green in Alton, Ill. The two-part event Sunday will begin at 3:30 p.m. on the Parade Field with "A Run/Walk to Remember." The run will consist of members from each military branch (Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines). Each branch will carry the World Trade Center artifact in turn to it's final memorial place in front of the 375th Air Mobility Wing Headquarters. At 4:30 p.m. the artifact will be formally accepted by Col. Michael Hornitschek, 375th Air Mobility Wing Commander in a brief ceremony. Team Scott members and their families are encouraged to participate. Military members participating in the Run/Walk should wear their branch's PT uniform to distinguish their service. Military members attending the formal ceremony only should wear ABUs or equivalent. Civilian members should wear appropriate attire.
