Parking wardens can issue tickets at Scott

The Base Defense Operation Center receives countless complaints about parking violations. SF patrols ensure security of base personnel and resources routinely and are not always available to respond to a facility where a parking violation is occurring. A parking violation is considered a minor offense, however, it has become such a "hot-button" issue that the 375th Security Forces Squadron has taken steps to reinvigorate the parking warden program.

Parking wardens are assigned by unit commanders to enforce parking standards in their areas of responsibility. After being assigned, the parking warden attends initial, annual, and refresher training instructed by a SF Police Services NCO. Training covers their authority to issue parking citations as well as their area of responsibility, and is tracked to ensure compliance and accountability.

SF also maintains an EIM SharePoint site, which provides authorized parking wardens with access to resources, such as reoccurring training, Illinois Vehicle Code, and Air Force Instruction(s) governing traffic enforcement. In essence, parking wardens are an extension of the Security Forces Squadron. A trained parking warden is authorized to issue a DD Form 1408 (Armed Forces Traffic Ticket) for violators within their assigned parking areas.

Drivers are required to adhere to the reporting instructions on the reverse side of the citation. Drivers should be aware that four non-moving violations within a 12-month period will result in a revocation of base driving privileges for six months. Revocations for flagrant violators are an enforceable standard to both military and the civilian population at Scott. Like all other traffic violations, parking citations will be entered into the Security Forces Management Information System and notifications sent through the appropriate chain of command for action.
